ESL Trainer for Teenagers, World Learning for Business, World Learning
Reports to: Project Manager at Location or World Learning headquarters
Locations: Houston, TX and vicinity
Closing Date: December 20, 2003
General Description: Deliver ESL and intercultural instruction to groups and individuals of junior high- and high school-age children of employees of Fortune 100 companies at specified sites. Work in a virtual team with a curriculum based on best practices, experiential learning. Utilize initial needs assessment to identify specific needs or gaps of each trainee, age group, and class, preliminary objectives, recommended methods and materials from World Learning for Business, and other pertinent data.
Trainer's Key Responsibilities
?Articulate long and short term objectives, goals, strategies and outcomes
?Use appropriate assessment tools to identify specific gaps and needs
?Prepare task-based, trainee-centered lessons
?Coach self-directed learning
?Prepare linguistically sound pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary lessons, taking into account specific content areas or subjects and being aware of age differences
?Prepare lessons for building intercultural skills, particularly around learning styles, US teacher expectations, and teenage social issues
?Evaluate trainee progress
?Evaluate instructional decisions
?Maintain accurate records of progress, performance, and other pertinent data
Required Qualifications:
?Bachelor's degree
?Thirty hours of specialized TESOL training at graduate level (e.g. UCLES, CELTA)
?Verifiable experience in training or in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to children of junior high and high school age
?Experience with and access to e-mail, web, and fax
Preferred Qualifications:
?Master's degree
?Active membership in professional organization, such as TESOL, TESOL affiliate, ASTD, SETAR, IATEFL, IATEFL affiliate
?Ability to speak a second language at an intermediate level
?International experience
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
These positions are part-time contract work. Teaching hours, course duration, and class size are variable.
