Hi!

My name is Ryan Coleman (as you can probably tell from my e-mail address)

I'm a 24 yaer old Canadian, who having never really left my country, is looking to so so NOW!

I've worked many interesting jobs, including Bartender, Social Worker, Firefighter and Tutor;
Of all of them I found helping others to learn, to be the most rewarding !

As mentioned, I have relatable experience at teaching English through my work/volunteer experience as a tutor, as well as having received a College Diploma in Social Work.

Probably my biggest selling points as an potential 'English Teacher' employee; are my creativity, love of helping others, and friendly personality.

-Completed 2 year Social Service Worker Course (SSW). Graduated with distinction.

-Courses included Applied communication I, II, and III, Current Social Issues and Community Resources, Personality Communication Theories and Intervention, Interviewing Techniques, Behaviour Modification in Everyday Life, Community Integration, Behaviour Measurement and Assessment, and Interviewing and Counseling.

2006-2007 Social Support Work Salvation Army

-Performed as 慉ssisted Living?Support; providing a positive role model, and professionally facilitating, for 3 differently-abled individuals in a group-home setting.

- Responsibilities included logging daily reports, goal-setting, and a strong focus on positive re-enforcement and behaviour modification

-Signed up for all available seminars, accredited courses, and learning modules including: Health and Wellness Seminar, Community Integration Conference, Sexuality Education for people with Disabilities Certification, Abuse Prevention and Response, Mental Health First Aid, MANDT System, WHIMIS, and First Aid

2006 Head Bartender/Lounge Supervisor Spaghetti Joes

-Performed as a Supervisor of the Lounge/Bar area of a busy restaurant, making sure all customers experienced an enjoyable evening out; with fast service, courteous staff interactions and a safe and relaxed atmosphere.

-Responsible for directing lounge staff, providing input towards new hire prospects, making and posting schedule, filling drink orders, Nightly Close and accounting, and other miscellaneous troubleshooting to ensure smooth operation of the lounge

2001-2002 Reservist (Army) SD&G Highlanders

-Performed in an Infantry capacity in the legendary 慓lens?unit; and was successful at functioning in demanding and high-stress situations, taking and following orders, and accomplishing assigned objectives

-Successfully attained qualification in various courses and modules, including but not limited to: Basic Training, Soldier Qualification, Driver Wheel; and well as receiving additional Clerical training in Typing proficiency, Internet use and Filing methodologies.

-Had a very rewarding experience, learning about the importance of discipline and working as a team.

Volunteer Activities

2006 Doug Bairds: Campaign Volunteer Green Party of Canada

-Was heavily involved in 2006 campaign, attending all strategy meetings and consulting and contributing to election strategy briefings. Suggested and initiated various actionable strategies such as Sign re-usual, focusing on 憂on-green?part of platform during debates, re-branding.
- Was responsible for 慏oor-to-Door?electioneering, sign placement, raising awareness through pamphlet distribution and various other activities in the aid of the cause.

-Performed as a one-on-one tutor with a full caseload of students with a wide variety of needs and abilities.
-Favoured 憃rganic?style instruction; a teaching style that puts less focus on regimented classroom assignments, and more on creating a fun, informal and interactive learning environment.

-Performed as a 慴uddy?helping to promote intercultural understanding, and help students of other cultures assimilate, improve their english and better understand Canada.
-Led to a greater appreciation of foreign cultures, and making great new friends

2003-2006 Big Brother Big Brothers and Sisters

-Was very active with the BB&S, attending lengthily initial screening, monthly and quarterly evaluations, and taking on responsibility of watching, and providing guidance and support to young adolescent boy for 3-5 hours every week
-Created fun and worthwhile activities with my 慙ittle Brother?and learned a lot from the experience.
